A thank you to “Susan’s Sitting Service”

This blog post is a “two-fer” – a combination “Why I Volunteer” and a spotlight on a supporting business.  Susan Bowling submitted the following when I put out a call on the Good Mews Facebook page for folks to tell me why they support Good Mews.  Take it away Susan…

By way of introduction, my name is Susan Bowling, and I am the owner of Susan’s Sitting Service.  Susan’s Sitting Service is a locally operated pet sitting service serving the Powers Ferry Corridor (E. Marietta and Vinings Area).  We provide pet owners with the peace of mind and satisfaction by providing quality and professional care for their pets and homes while they’re away.  Knowing that your precious possessions are being cared for by a loving and trustworthy sitter is our mission and focus.

Since August, I have supplied your organization with various supplies, such as:  fluids, pet food, cat beds and litter.  My husband and I attended the “Kitty Kegger” this past October and “Susan’s Sitting Service” provided a gift certificate for the auction from Houston’s Restaurants.  The event was a lot of fun and we enjoyed meeting other feline pet owners.

During Christmas, “Susan’s Sitting Service” contacted several of its business clients to fill the “Kitty Christmas List.”  We were able to provide various office supplies and paper.   Instead of supplies, a few of our clients opted to donate $200 worth of cash donations for Good Mews to go towards their new facility.

My late kitty, “Luey” is featured on the Good Mews 2012 Calendar – he’s the big black kitty for January!  We had our boy for 19 years when he passed away and we’ve recently adopted another kitty, “Moo Moo.”  She is a “cow cat” with a lot of character!  We’re hoping that she will one day have her photo on a Good Mews future calendar – she’s a cutie!

As you can see, I am enjoying my involvement with Good Mews.  Being involved in the community is very important to me.  Good Mews provides a much needed service for our area and is a well-run organization.  I am happy to be part of your mission which is to “find good homes for good kitties.”  Sincerely yours,

Susan Bowling

And we are very pleased to announce that “Susan’s Sitting Service” will be a sponsor for this year’s bowling fundraiser – Pins for Purrs.  Thank you Susan!

A friend to many animals

It’s time again to feature another member of the Atlanta business community that’s been supportive of Good Mews. Leesia Teh is a local photographer who is a friend to many rescue animals.   On her website she refers to herself as a dog photographer but, as you can see below, she takes amazing cat photos as well.

In addition to donating time and services to Good Mews, Leesia frequently photographs animals at Atlanta Pet Rescue and DeKalb Animal Services – those were her photos in Tuesday’s blog post about Hercules.  By giving so generously of her time, Leesia has helped countless animals all across the Metro Atlanta area.  Here she is being spotlighted on Fox 5 Atlanta just this week.

If you’ve ever considered custom photographs of your furry friends, please think of Leesia; you can find her contact info by clicking here.  And do yourself a favor and check out her photo blog.  The pictures are sure to give you a smile.  You can see my favorite post here.

Good Mews needs Helping Hands

It’s time again to thank an area business that has been so generous in their support of Good Mews.  And since Valentine’s Day is fast approaching it seems appropriate to spotlight Carithers Flowers.

Carithers Flowers is a second generation family florist and was founded in 1974 by Larry and Jane Carithers.  Through their Helping Hands program Carithers is able to continuously give something back to their community all year long.  With each order a customer can make a $2.00 donation to one of the participating organizations by selecting the “Helping Hands” pull down menu on the order form and choosing from the participating organizations to receive your contribution.

Last year Good Mews was honored to receive a check for more than $2100 as a result of this wonderful program.

It should be noted that these donations are not added to the cost of your order but come directly from Carithers Flowers truly demonstrating their community support.

As always we encourage you to support those businesses that support us.  If you find yourself in need of flowers or gift baskets anytime of the year, please remember Carithers Flowers.  And while you are there please be sure to take advantage of their Helping Hands donation program and chose Good Mews as the recipient.

We’d like to thank…

One of the things we will do from time to time is feature the area businesses that so generously support Good Mews in various ways.  It’s just our way of saying thank you.

Here is our very own Tricky

Tricky Bath

after getting her daily bath with some shampoo that was donated through Red Bandanna’s Angel Tree program.  Red Bandana Pet Foods customers were able to pick a dog or cat off the tree that was waiting for a fur-ever home and get a Christmas gift for them.  Good Mews was one of four rescue organizations chosen to receive these donations.  A big thank you to Red Bandana and to all of their customers who purchased items for our kitties.

Red Bandanna is very supportive of the rescue community in Atlanta so please think of them for your pet food and supply needs.  For more information go to  www.redbandannapetfood.com.

If you click on Tricky’s photo you’ll be taken to her Facebook page.  Check it out as I think you’ll enjoy her wit.
