Certain kinds of cats sometimes have a harder time getting adopted; shy cats, cats with injuries or illnesses that require a lot of medications or older cats.
The Good Mews Golden Companions program is designed to help our senior cats find their own special home. If you are 65 or older and you choose one of our senior felines, the adoption fee is just $65. Research has shown that owning a pet helps to lower stress and blood pressure and make us happier so senior felines make a great match for senior humans!
This program is so special it earned Good Mews a $5000 grant from the Doris Day Animal Foundation. “When we learned about Good Mews, we knew we had to help,” Miss Day said from her home in Carmel, California. “We fund other charitable 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations that help animals and the people who love them, and Good Mews and their terrific volunteers are doing good work for their community and the cats they love. We’re proud to be able to help.”
This grant is specifically targeted toward our Golden Companions program, and provides the funding to waive the fees for our senior cats that are adopted by senior citizens. In addition, this grant also assists with the funding of the HALO costs relating to our senior cats in the HALO program. The Doris Day Animal Foundation strongly supports the benefits of the companionship that senior cats can provide to senior citizens, a position also strongly supported by Good Mews.
